Receive an error when starting Xfmea, such as "Request for permission ... failed" or "Application has generated an exception that could not be handled"

Technical Support Document # RS20011

Last Edited: 10/28/2011

Affected Product(s): Xfmea

Issue:

If you have changed the level of trust for the "My Computer" zone in the .NET security settings to anything besides the default, "Full Trust," an error message will be displayed when you attempt to start Xfmea. This message may vary depending on the level of trust and other circumstances. For example:

  • "Request for permission of type System.Security.Permissions.FileIOPermission ... failed."
  • "Application has generated an exception that could not be handled."

Solution:

Restore the default level of trust for the "My Computer" zone to Full Trust.

To do this, open the Administrative Tools option in the Control Panel and then double-click .NET Framework Wizards. Click the Adjust .net Security icon to open the Security Adjustment Wizard. Select the first option (Make changes to this computer) and then click Next>. With the My Computer icon selected, click the Default Level button or drag the slider to the top of the scale to choose the "Full Trust" level, as shown next.

You must set the level of trust for the My Computer zone to "Full Trust" in order to run Xfmea on your computer.

Click Next> again and then Finish to save the changes.
